BELGIUM KNOCKS OUT FRANCE TO REACH DAVIS CUP SEMIS
Belgium has surged into the Davis Cup semi-finals with a gutsy 2–0 win over France in Bologna.
First up, Raphaël Collignon dug deep after dropping the opening set to Corentin Moutet, eventually sealing a comeback 2–6, 7–5, 7–5 to give Belgium a strong 1–0 lead.
Then Zizou Bergs stepped on court for the clinching match and didn’t disappoint: He beat Arthur Rinderknech 6–3, 7–6 (4). Despite wobbling a bit on serve at 5–4 in the second set, he recovered brilliantly, taking the tie-break with a powerful forehand to finish.
That straight-sets win means the doubles rubber wasn’t even needed, and Belgium booked themselves a spot in the last four, a huge result given how dominant France has been in the past.
Up next on the schedule is a semi-final showdown against either Italy or Austria.
This victory marks a turning point for Belgium: They’d lost their previous four ties against France, including the 2017 final.
