MESSI’S HEARTFELT HOMECOMING
Barcelona is buzzing with more than just football drama. Lionel Messi’s emotional tug-of-war with his old club has taken on new life.
Victor Font, a frontrunner in Barça’s 2026 presidential race, has promised that the very first person he’ll call if he wins is Messi. Font, a long-time fan, said it gives him “goosebumps” to imagine reconnecting with the legend, but he stressed it can’t be about using Messi as a political prop.
Meanwhile, Messi himself has opened up. In a heartfelt interview, he revealed that he and his family deeply miss Barcelona. Even while playing out his final years for Inter Miami, he said he plans to return “just as a fan” — walking into Camp Nou, cheering with the rest of the crowd.
He called Barca “my home, my place, my people,” and admitted he’d hoped to wrap up his career on the pitch there, but reality didn’t let that happen.
Messi’s recent night-time visit to the renovated Camp Nou was emotional: He spoke of missing the stadium “with my soul” and lamented not having a proper farewell years ago, when pandemic restrictions robbed him of a grand goodbye.
Still, he’s convinced: “We’re going back to Barcelona. It’s where I belong.”
