SA’S TAZMIN BRITS BREAKS WOMEN’S CRICKET RECORD
Not only did she lead the charge to give the Proteas women a massive comeback and victory, but Tazmin Brits also managed to become the first woman to score five ODI centuries in a calendar year.
Brits managed to get 101 runs off 89 balls against New Zealand at the women’s Cricket World Cup in India.
The previous record of four centuries in a calendar year was held by Smriti Mandhana from India. She is currently in second place.
The win boosts the morale within the team after their disappointing start against England in the first round of the tournament.
“It feels great (helping her team win). I am glad that we could pull this one through. We definitely needed it after the first game,” Brits said at the presser after the match against the Kiwis.
The 34-year-old said her new bat might just be known as her lucky bat from now on
“I just said I am going to be as positive as possible (in the chase) because we needed this win. I am just glad I middled all the balls. It was also a new bat – I hadn’t used it once – so I think that is going to be the lucky bat from now on.”
The Proteas have five more pool matches left in the World Cup before they hopefully reach the semi-finals and final.
