SOUTH AFRICA WINS RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP
For the first time, the Springboks have won back-to-back Rugby Championships. The South Africans beat Argentina 29-27 at the Allianz Stadium in London on Saturday.
Up until the Australia-New Zealand match on Saturday, the title was still up for grabs. But, with the log standings after New Zealand beat Australia, any kind of victory would’ve meant South Africa won the title.
At the start of the game, it looked as if the Pumas were more alive than ever when Bautista Delguy scored an opening try.
At halftime, Argentina led 13-10.
But things soon turned around when Cobus Reinach scored a try in the first half.
The match saw another try from Delguy as well as tries from Isgro with a conversion from Carreras and two penalty conversions from Carreras for Argentina.
Reinach and Malcolm Marx managed to score two tries each, with three conversions and a penalty from Sasha Feinberg-Mngomezulu.
Argentina opted to play in London instead of back in their home country to increase potential returns from the game. The final match in the Rugby Championship was attended by 70,360 people.
The decision to play in London worked out well for South Africa, according to coach Rassie Erasmus.
"There is no doubt they are tougher in Argentina; we've lost twice there. But it was their choice to play here, as it can help financially and to grow their game with spectators.”
"We are fortunate it was played here [at Allianz Stadium]."
