Just Jinjer lead singer Ard Matthews is about to take on a massive challenge.
Along with a crew of experts, he will be competing in the 2023 Cape2Rio.
The iconic race across the Atlantic Ocean kicked off on Monday from the Royal Cape Yacht Club and will finish in about 22 days in the city of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
The 47-year-old has long been a massive fan of sailing and he will be racing on his boat The Impossible Machine. The boat’s name comes from the singer’s second solo album with the same name.
Matthews bought the boat in 2020 and started a major restoring process. The boat was originally designed by Kurt Oehlman and built by Louw and Halvorson.
According to a statement released by Matthews, “the Impossible Machine will represent a constant voyage of hope and ocean-saving initiatives and will naturally join the fight to reduce global warming and plastic pollution. She will promote the importance of strengthening the immune system, by educating people about the powerful properties that have always existed in nature”.
Not only will Matthews be participating in the race, but he hopes to also be recording music as the boat has a studio onboard.
