JEREMY CLARKSON’S COLUMN ABOUT MEGHAN MARKLE CAUSES MAJOR BACKLASH
Former Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson’s column mentioning his hate for Meghan Markle has caused a massive stir in the United Kingdom. The column was published in the Sun on Sunday but has now been taken down at the request of Clarkson.
A total of 64 MPs signed a letter condemning the presenter’s “hateful” remarks about the Duchess of Sussex.
In the column, Clarkson said that he “hates” Markle and that he was “dreaming of the day when she is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while crowds chant, ‘Shame!’ and throw lumps of excrement at her”.
The column has now become the Independent Press Standards Organisation’s (IPSO) most complained-about article ever. According to the regulator, more than 20,800 complaints have been received so far.
An IPSO spokesperson said they “will follow their usual processes to examine the complaints they have received. This will take longer than usual because of the volume of complaints”.
Clarkson’s daughter Emily took to social media to share her disgust at her father’s remarks.
“My views are and have always been clear when it comes to misogyny, bullying and the treatment of women by the media. I want to make it very clear that I stand against everything.”
