SINNER WINS HIS FIRST WIMBLEDON TITLE

Italian Jannik Sinner beat world number two Carlos Alcaraz to claim the Wimbledon Championship title.

The world number one defeated Alcaraz 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 on Sunday.

It’s the Italian’s first Wimbledon title, and at the age of 23, it’s his fourth Grand Slam title.

After losing to Alcaraz just a few weeks ago in the French Open, this was sweet revenge. But, in the true gentleman style that he’s known for, Sinner praised his opponent during his acceptance speech.

"An amazing tournament, but mostly thank you for the player you are," Sinner said to Alcaraz.

"It's so difficult to play against you, but we have an amazing relationship off the court and on the court... Keep going, keep pushing, and you are going to hold this (trophy) many times. You already have two!"

For tennis fans all over the world, the rivalry between these two players are exciting as the likes of former rivals Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic has come to an end.

Djokovic is the only player out of the three still playing. He lost to Sinner in the semi-final round.

In front of Prince William, Catherine, Princess of Wales and two of their children, Sinner jokingly thanked his brother for being in attendance.

His brother missed one of his previous matches because he went to watch an F1 Grand Prix race instead. But, on the day of the final, his brother was there, with Sinner saying “thank you to my brother for being here today, because there is no F1 Grand Prix taking place today”.
