SPEEDING SUSPECTED CAUSE OF FATAL JOTA CRASH

The forensics team analysing the scene of the accident in which Liverpool forward Diogo Jota died, suspects that the cause of the accident was a burst tyre due to excessive speeding.

The Portuguese player and his brother died on the scene in northwestern Spain last week while they were travelling in the 28-year-old’s Lamborghini. It’s believed they were on their way to a ferry in Spain to make their way to Britain.

The Lamborghini veered off the road and then burst into flames shortly after midnight on Thursday, 3 July.

Spanish police released a preliminary report after analysing the marks left by one of the Lamborghini’s wheels on the asphalt. Authorities have confirmed that the final report will be sent to a local court before sharing it with the public.

The brothers were buried together in their hometown of Gondomar in northern Portugal over the past weekend.

In late June, Jota married his partner of 10 years, Rute Cardoso, with whom he had three children.

Reuters reported that tributes to Jota poured in from national leaders, football presidents, his teammates and clubs, while in Liverpool, devastated fans wept and laid flowers outside Anfield stadium for a man who weeks earlier had celebrated winning the Premier League with the team.
