TITANIC TOURIST SUBMARINE STILL MISSING
A massive search and rescue operation is currently taking place to find a tourist sub believed to be lost at sea.
The submarine, Titan belongs to OceanGate Expeditions, a company based in the United States. Tourists are able to get on board and make their way to the wreckage of the Titanic, located off the eastern coast of Canada and the United States.
According to the US Coast Guard, the search is being conducted about 1,450km off Cape Cod, United States. The area is very remote.
On Sunday, officials were notified that the Titan was overdue. It’s been reported that it was more than halfway into its two-and-a-half-hour dive to the ruins of the Titanic when the vessel lost contact.
The Canadian Coast Guard and the Canadian Armed Forces are also part of the search and rescue mission.
The oxygen supply inside the vessel is expected to last five days from submersion. With the mission still ongoing, it’s likely that the passengers on board might run out of oxygen.
The passengers are Hamish Harding, a British billionaire; Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood, heirs to Pakistan’s biggest family fortunes; Paul-Henri Nargeolet, a Titanic research expert; and Stockton Rush, the CEO of OceanGate – the company in charge of the expedition.
