UK COUPLE’S STOLEN CAR INTERCEPTED WHILE ON ITS WAY TO AFRICA

A couple in the UK has been the latest victims of an international syndicate stealing cars in the UK and sending them to Africa.

Anthony and Danielle Wilson from Essex woke up to find their Range Rover had been stolen. It’s believed the couple has been followed by the thieves for some time before the car was stolen.

“Police had said there was a chance that I’d been followed because they’d obviously got in it without the keys, so maybe they cloned the key or found a way to get into it when I’d been out and about, and I only ever go anywhere with my little toddler so it worried me then.”

After CCTV footage showed the car being stolen by two people in 63 seconds, the car was later found at the Port of Tilbury in Essex.

The Range Rover was wedged inside a container en route to the Democratic Republic of Congo in central Africa.

Essex police have warned that incidents like this are getting hotter and that the number of reports is increasing.

PC Paul Gerrish said it’s a lucrative market and that organised gangs are targeting one particular make or model of car.

“There clearly is a business model being followed in as much as certain makes, models and certain colours are being targeted to fulfil an order.”
