ANGELINA JOLIE TO STAR AS MARIA CALLAS
US actress Angelina Jolie has wowed fans of Maria Callas after a first look was released of the actress portraying the opera singer.
The upcoming film, Maria follows the life of the legendary singer and will be directed by Pablo Larrain.
Larrain is no stranger to biopics, he has previously directed Jackie, the movie about the life of Jackie Kennedy and also Spencer, the movie Diana Princess of Wales.
Well-known international actors Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, Haluk Bilginer, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Valeria Golino will star alongside Jolie.
According to a description released with the first footage, the film will “explore the life od the legendary, iconic and controversial singer, often described as the original diva”.
“Based on true accounts, Maria tells the tumultuous, beautiful and tragic story of the life of the world’s greatest opera singer, relived and re-imagined during her final days in 1970s Paris.”
The movie will be filmed in Paris, Budapest, Milan and Greece.
Chilean director Larrain shared his excitement around the production and praised Jolie for her preparation.
“I am incredibly excited to start production on Maria, which I hope will bring Maria Callas’ remarkable life and work to audiences all around the world, thanks to the magnificent script by Steven Knight, the work of the entire cast and crew, and especially, Angeline’s brilliant work and extraordinary preparation.”
