ARMED MEN OFFLOADS COAL AT KLERKSDORP STATE HOSPITAL

A group of men has offloaded coal in front of the Klerksdorp Tshepong Hospital’s delivery gate.

The North West health department’s MEC Madoda Sambatha said it’s believed the group expressed unhappiness over the newly appointed coal service provider.

“It is alleged that a group of men, suspected to be armed, forcefully took keys from the truck drivers who were awarded (the tender) to deliver coal at the hospital. They offloaded the coal at the delivery entrance.”

Even though the incident didn’t affect the delivery of hospital services and didn’t prevent access to the hospital, this incident comes only two months after a group of doctors were robbed of their money, cellphones and valuable possessions while on duty at the hospital.

During the armed robbery, four armed men entered the boardroom where the doctors got together to meet. The gunmen demanded their possessions.

The coal tender matter is being investigated.

“The department views this incident in a serious light, especially because the tender was legitimately and fairly awarded following the applicable legislation. We are calling on police to investigate this rime and bring to book all involved,” the MEC said.
