WOMAN GIVES BIRTH ON BOARD KENYA HIGH-SPEED TRAIN

An expectant mother was travelling from Nairobi to Mombasa on board the Madaraka Express when she unexpectedly gave birth.

The woman was assisted by Doctor Indanyeni Luseso and Nurse Fauziya Lugogo who both just happened to be on the same train from Kenya’s capital to the seaside town of Mombasa.

Kenya Railways announced the news with a post on its Facebook page.

“We are delighted to share a heartwarming story of a mother who welcomed her bundle of joy on board the Madaraka Express.”

The caption was accompanied by a photo showing the woman with her newborn and fellow passengers, as well as a staff member, smiling.

According to the post, the mother “was rushed to Mariakani Sub-county Hospital for further medical assistance. Both the mother and the baby are okay. We wish her well”.

News24 reports that hundreds of people congratulated the new mother on Facebook, with some urging her to name the baby Madaraka (“freedom” in Swahili) and others calling on Kenya Railways to give the child free lifelong access to the express (high-speed train) service.
