BLINDING LIGHTS SPOTIFY’S MOST STREAMED SONG EVER

It’s official, The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights has just been announced as Spotify’s most streamed song.

The song was originally released on 29 November 2019 and was the second single from the Canadian’s fourth studio album After Hours. At the time it debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 11. The next week it went straight to number 1 where it stayed for a total of four weeks.

In total, Blinding Lights spent 90 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, one of the longest chart runs in history.

The Weeknd made the announcement on 1 January when he tweeted “FOR NEW YEARS???”.

He followed up that tweet with another one: “Happy new years to blinding lights. The most streamed song of all time tonight.”

With more than 3.335 billion streams on Spotify, it took over Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You, the song which held the record previously. It passed Sheeran’s song with 918,000 streams.

At the end of 2022 The Weeknd had another record to celebrate. He was announced as Spotify’s most streamed artist of the year.

Early last year he released his most recent album Dawn FM. The album debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200.
