ESKOM WARNS OF STAGE 16 LOADSHEDDING

With its new national standards document, Eskom has suggested a new loadshedding schedule. The new schedules include different stages up until stage 16.

According to the struggling state-owned enterprise, the Code of Practice suggest blackouts for longer and more frequently than what South Africans are used to currently.

Stages 9 to 16 will be implemented to ensure Eskom meets the peak demand and protect the grid from total failure.

The newly introduced stages are based on recommendations made by the National Rationalised Specifications (NRS) Association in March 2023.

Business Insider reports that the NRS is a voluntary forum of organisations that was formed to collaborate and develop voluntary industry specifications to standardise equipment specifications across the South African Electricity Supply Industry.
