RAMAPHOSA MEETS TRUMP AT WHITE HOUSE
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa met with US President Donald Trump on Wednesday.
Ramaphosa travelled to the United States to discuss the strained relationship between the two countries following Trump’s allegations that white Afrikaner farmers are being killed in South Africa.
Since Trump became president in January, he has stopped all US funding to South Africa with immediate effect.
After Trump welcomed Ramaphosa to the Oval Office, he spoke highly of the visiting president.
“The president is a truly respected man in many, many circles. And in some circles, he’s considered a little controversial.”
In front of journalists from around the world, Ramaphosa acknowledged that the two leaders met “to reset the relationship between the United States and South Africa”.
Present in the Oval Office was Minister of Agriculture John Steenhuisen, as well as South African golfers Ernie Els and Retief Goosen.
When Els was given the chance to speak, he didn’t hold back and shared his thoughts on the matter, saying: “This has been a long time coming”.
“We need the US. We’ve got a great alley in the US.”
South African businessman and billionaire Johann Rupert was also present and shared his concerns about the safety of white Afrikaners in South Africa.
