TAYLOR SWIFT’S MUSIC BACK ON TIKTOK

The biggest music star in the world’s music is back on TikTok.

For a couple of months, Taylor Swift’s music wasn’t available on the hugely popular social media platform. This was due to Swift’s music distributor, Universal Music Group, pulling the music of all its artists.

Other artists whose music was also not available since January include Camila Cabello, Rihanna, and Ariana Grande. Universal made the decision to pull its artist's music after publishing an open letter to the artist and songwriter community.

In the letter, Universal encouraged other music distributors to “call time out on TikTok” because of its unfair royalty payments towards artists and songwriters.

CNN reports that Universal Music Group said at the time TikTok proposed paying its artists and songwriters “a fraction of the rate that similarly situated major social platforms pay”.

Artists’ music is generally available for free to use by anyone with an account on the social media platform.

“Ultimately TikTok is trying to build a music-based business, without paying fair value for the music.”

It seems an agreement has been reached between Universal and TikTok as CNN was able to locate Swift’s songs in TikTok’s music catalogue last week.

Swift’s latest album, The Tortured Poet’s Department is due to be released within the next few days.
