TOP 10 EMOJIS FOR 2023

Media monitoring and analysis have become much more than just data and numbers thanks to the wonderful world of emojis.

Meltwater recently used its social listening and analytics solution to reveal which emojis were the most popular in 2023.

From 1 January 2023 to 30 November 2023 12 platforms were monitored. This included Instagram, Reddit and X formerly known as Twitter.

There are currently 2,782 Unicode Standard emoji options, but the most popular emoji used worldwide in 2023 was the Face With Tears of Joy emoji. It was mentioned a whopping 254 million times.

In second place was Loudly Crying Face with 208 mentions and third place went to the Rolling On The Floor Laughing with 128 million mentions.

According to Meltwater, “these three emojis topping the chart can be used to express similar emotions, like laughing, delight and extreme amusement, all cases where a simple LOL just won’t suffice”.

The other emojis that made the top 10 list are Red Heart; Fire; Folded Hands; Smiling Face With Heart-Eyes; Smiling Face With Hearts; Sparkles; and Smiling Face With Smiling Eyes.
