TRUMP ON TRIAL FOR HUSH MONEY
Donald Trump is on trial after being accused of criminally altering business records. The lawsuit states that the former US president is believed to have paid $130,000 to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
Daniels was paid the money during the 2016 election after she threatened to share her story of their affair with news outlets. Trump’s team argues that the money wasn’t paid to keep her quiet, but rather not to embarrass Trump’s family during the election.
During day one of the trial being held in Manhattan, New York, the jury selection was still in progress. Some jurors were dismissed because they admitted that they couldn’t be impartial towards Trump.
Trump described the trial against him as a “scam”.
NBC News said the selection of 12 jurors and six alternates could take up to two weeks because of the large pool of prospective jurors.
There are a total of 200 jurors available for selection. Each of them was given a 42-question survey to answer about their ability to travel, news habits and hobbies.
On the first day of the trial, more than half of the first group were excused after admitting they couldn’t be fair.
Trump is currently hoping to be nominated as the Republican candidate for the US national election taking place in November.
