A 63-year-old woman has died after a Christmas tree fell on her at a market in Belgium.
The event happened at a Christmas market in the city of Oudenaarde. The woman was a local.
CCTV footage showed the 20-metre-high Christmas tree with thousands of lights slowly leaning over. It then collapsed on top of the woman and two other people, right next to the merry-go-round.
The other two people, also women, were slightly injured.
An investigation has been launched by local authorities to establish whether the tree wasn’t properly secured to begin with and whether the weather had an impact as well.
Storm Pia hit western parts of the country on the day of the event with a yellow code warning issued for the coastal areas.
