DISNEY SUFFERS MASSIVE LEAK OF INTERNAL MESSAGES
Media and theme park giant Disney has confirmed that the company has been victim to a massive internal messaging leak.
The hacking group, Nullbulge, has claimed responsibility for the leak of the internal messages. The group said that it is “protecting artists’ rights”.
According to the group’s website, Nullbulge says it targets anyone it believes is harming the creative industry by using content generated by artificial intelligence, which it describes as “theft”.
The group claims to be located in Russia and said they managed to gain access to Disney’s Slack messaging system through an insider.
“Disney was our target due to how it handles artist contracts, its approach to artificial intelligence, and its pretty blatant disregard for the consumer,” the group told the BBC.
Disney is currently investigating the matter and it’s not clear whether the information that has been obtained will be damaging to the company.
The BBC reports it is unusual for hackers to claim they are “Russian hacktivists” with an ethical agenda. Most cybercriminals, including those in Russia, aim to make money by extorting their victims.
