TOUR DE FRANCE CYCLIST FINED FOR KISSING WIFE
Julien Bernard has been fined for kissing his wife during a Tour de France time trial.
The Frenchman was ordered to pay 200 Swiss francs by the International Cycling Union (UCI) after he briefly stopped during the seventh stage of the race.
The reason for the Lidl-Trek rider’s fine was cited as “unseemly or inappropriate behaviour during the race and damage to the image of the sport”.
Stage seven of the famous race sees cyclists riding in the famous French wine region of Burgundy. When he reached the top of the climb, Bernard was only about 30 minutes from where he lives so many of his friends and family waited there for him with signs.
His wife then stepped forward to give him a quick kiss while holding their son who wore the same outfit as his dad.
Bernard took to social media to apologise to the UCI for “having damaged the image of sport” but also said that he’s okay with paying the fine “every day and reliving this moment”.
He said: “It’s these moments that keep me going and cycling”.
