ACTRESS SHANNEN DOHERTY LOSES BATTLE AGAINST CANCER
US actress Shannen Doherty has died at the age of 53. She lost her long battle to cancer.
The news was announced by her publicist, Leslie Sloane.
“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty.”
Doherty made her first appearance as an actress as a kid when starred in several TV series before joining the cast of the Little House on the Prairie series at the age of 11.
South Africans got to know Doherty well when she starred as Brenda Walsh in the famous TV series Beverly Hills 90210 during the 1990s.
The series was set in the US city and followed the lives of a group of friends who attended the same high school together.
Years later, Doherty admitted that she struggled to handle fame back then. She left the series after four seasons.
“I was very confused back then about what I wanted for myself, and the attention was way too much. I didn’t always handle it that well.”
After her Beverly Hills 90210 role, Doherty joined the cast of Charmed, another hit TV series.
Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 but was in remission by 2017. The cancer returned again in 2019.
