RASSIE MAKES BIG CHANGES AHEAD OF PORTUGAL TEST

After losing to Ireland on Saturday, Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus has added five new players to the squad.

This means there will be seven uncapped players getting ready to face Portugal in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

Due to injuries and personal leave, players like Franco Moster, Damian de Allende and Edwill van der Merwe won’t be playing in the final Castle Lager test.

The new recruits are Nthuthuko Mchunu, Elrigh Louw, Andre-Hugo Venter, Ruan Venter, and Quan Horn.

More changes might be on the cards following this weekend’s growing list of injured players. South Africa lost out on a series win when they were narrowly defeated 25-24 by Ireland in Durban on Saturday.

Erasmus warned that Portugal won’t be a walkover, but it will be a great start for the uncapped players.

“Our plan has always been to expose more players to top-level international rugby, which is essential for building squad depth ahead of the 2027 Rugby World Cup.”

The match-day team to face Portugal will be announced on Tuesday.
