JIM MORRISON’S GRAVESITE SCULPTURE FOUND
The late American singer’s gravesite in Pere Lachaise cemetery has been a popular tourist attraction for many decades. Visited by fans and those fascinated with the lead singer of the rock band The Doors, the gravesite in Paris has become one of the most visited in France.
In 1988, Morrison’s bust was stolen. Now, 37 years later, it has been found.
In an Instagram post, the Paris Regional Judicial Police Directorate announced that it “was a chance discovery made during a search ordered by an examining magistrate at the Paris court”.
The search was conducted by the Financial and Anti-Corruption Brigade, under the authority of the Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The state of the bust wasn’t made public, but Jeff Jampol, manager of the Jim Morrison Estate, told CNN that the family was “happy to hear” it has been found.
“Obviously, it’s a piece of history, and one Jim’s family wanted there on his grave, so it’s gratifying to see that it’s been recovered.
“Now we’ll have to see what kind of shape the bust is in.”
The bust was created by Croatian sculptor Mladen Mikulin and installed on his tombstone on the 10th anniversary of Morrison’s death.
Thousands of fans still turn up every year at the gravesite on 3 July, the anniversary of Morrison’s death.
