MASSIVE TECH OUTAGE CAUSES CHAOS

A worldwide tech outage caused major problems in various sectors.

The blackout was traced back to a cybersecurity firm called CrowdStrike. System problems caused companies like global shipping giant FedEx to miss deliveries as their systems crashed.

The outage was also the reason why hundreds of flights across the world were unable to take off. The backlog of getting flights to take off and the flight schedule up to date caused headaches for airports and travellers.

Several content moderators at Meta were also hit.

Other companies that subscribe to CrowdStrike’s services are Amazon and most major airlines.

Following the outage, CrowdStrike’s CEO George Kurtz posted a statement on X.

“We’re deeply sorry for the impact that we’ve caused to customers, to travellers, to anyone affected by this, including our company.”

He gave more details about the system problem, saying the defect was found “in a single content update for Windows hosts” that affected all Microsoft customers.

Luckily, the glitch didn’t have any effect on the six airports operated by Airport Company South Africa and no flights were affected.
