PAM GOLDING SUFFERS DATA BREACH
Local real estate giant Pam Golding Properties has been hit by a data breach. The breach has resulted in unauthorised access of the personal information on the group’s customer relationship (CRM) system.
The company’s CRM contains highly confidential information like banking details, financial information and other documents belonging to their clients. A statement released by the group stressed that no private information was accessed during the data breach.
“As soon as we became aware of the security compromise, we took immediate action to secure our systems and removed all unauthorised access.
“While investigating the impact of this incident, we also immediately began implementing steps to contain the incident and prevent any further compromises.”
Pam Golding said it has followed all the necessary steps to inform clients in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act and it has also reported the matter to the SAPS with a case number.
The group has said that independent cybersecurity experts have been brought in to investigate the incident.
In the statement released on Tuesday, 11 March, the group advised affected clients to be cautious about clicking on links and providing sensitive information.
“We take client privacy and security, and our privacy commitment under POPIA very seriously and sincerely regret any distress or inconvenience this incident may cause.”
