SA STAGES COMEBACK TO BEAT BANGLADESH

It was a comeback for the books as South Africa managed to edge past Bangladesh after being 78-5 at one stage.

The match against Bangladesh in Vizag was the South African side’s third consecutive win at the Women’s Cricket World Cup since they were beaten by England in the first round.

All-rounder Nadine de Klerk managed to hit 37 balls (not out) off 29 balls. De Klerk was dropped in the 49th over by Shorna Akter with nine runs away from their target of 233.

Although the 18-year-old Akter disappointed with the dropped catch, she managed to hit a marvellous 51 not out from 35 balls.

But, De Klerk wasn’t the only missed opportunity of the day as Bangladesh dropped Chloe Tryon on 46. She went on to hit 62 off 69 balls before she was run out in the 45th over. Her superb batting helped South Africa to manage an ask of 37 runs from 36 deliveries.

There’s no doubt that one of her overs led to this more achievable run rate. The superb over in question led to 16 runs.

This win adds to South Africa’s scorecard after beating New Zealand and co-host India in earlier rounds.
