UNBEATEN ENGLAND DOMINATES SRI LANKA
England managed to crush Sri Lanka on Saturday in Colombo.
The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup has been kind to England as the team is yet to lose a match.
England won the toss and decided to bat. In their 50 overs, they managed to reach a solid 239 runs, losing only six wickets.
Although the team faced some early setbacks, one of the world’s best all-rounders, Mat Sciver-Brunt, held her own and scored 117 runs, which included 12 boundaries.
After the drinks break, Sri Lanka started their chase positively. At one stage, the home team was 89 for one. But the tide quickly turned with Sophie Eccelstone leading the charge for the bowlers.
Ecclestone took four wickets for only 17 runs, which triggered Sri Lanka’s dramatic collapse.
In the end, Sri Lanka was eventually bowled out for 150 runs. They lost their last nine wickets for just 61 runs.
With three consecutive victories in the bag, England has placed itself firmly among the title contenders. The team’s attitude seems to play a big role in their performance, and it didn’t go unnoticed by ex-Australia all-rounder and TV commentator Lisa Sthalekar.
While commentating on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra, Sthalekar said, “There is a difference in attitude more than skill or performance. They seem more focused on what they need to do. I have seen a change in attitude.”.
No doubt, Sri Lanka will be disappointed with their performance.
