DJOKOVIC BECOMES ONLY THIRD 100 ATP WINNER
Serbia’s Novak Djokovic has become the third man in the Open era to win a massive 100 ATP singles titles.
He became a member of this exclusive club when he defeated Hubert Hurkacz in the final of the Geneva Open.
The only other two players who have also achieved this feat are Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer.
After his victory, the world’s number one player thanked his family first.
“I want to thank my wife and my kids for coming for three days only on the school break, cutting the school for one day, just to be with me,” Djokovic said in his on-court interview.
He also shared his gratitude towards his team.
“My team, the only thing I can say is thank you for being with me in the good times, but also in the bad times. Today was very challenging to stay with me on the court because I was going off at you quite a lot… So I want to thank you for staying here and earning with me this victory number 100.”
Clay has always been a challenging surface for Djokovic, but recently more so than ever before. He lost in the first rounds of both the Monte-Carlo Master and the Madrid Open this year.
The ATP’s most famous and challenging clay surface tournament, the French Open, kicks off today in Paris.
