RAIN HELPS ENGLAND TO VICTORY AGAINST PAKISTAN
When your team is in trouble and the heavens open, it can only mean one thing: Help is on the way.
Relentless rain was on England’s side when they faced Pakistan in the Women’s Cricket World Cup match in Colombo.
England only managed to reach 79 runs with 7 wickets lost when rain interrupted play. Based on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method, the match was reduced to 31 overs per side.
Pakistan was set an easy target of 113 runs to win.
But a massive downpour hit again when Pakistan reached 33 for 0 after only six overs. The umpires made the decision to abandon the match.
This led to England winning and continuing their unbeaten run at the tournament. Even though they’re yet to lose a match, their dismal performance with the bat raised some eyebrows and has a lot of fans questioning whether they’re good enough to even win the World Cup.
Nat Sciver-Brunt’s team still face stiff competition up ahead, with their next opponents being India, followed by tournament favourites Australia.
Captain Sciver-Brunt managed to score a century in her team’s previous match against Sri Lanka, but even her performance was shaky against Pakistan.
After being dismissed for only four runs, Sciver-Brunt didn’t hold back when asked to comment on her own and her team’s performance after the match.
"After the rain break, we batted well to give ourselves a chance, but we weren't very good today. (We) weren't good enough."
The England captain kept her positive attitude by ending off with: "We'll hold our hands up."
