ZADRAN FINED BY ICC FOR HITTING EQUIPMENT
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined Afghanistan batter Ibrahim Zadran for breaching its code of conduct.
The incident happened during the 37th over in his country’s third ODI against Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.
Zadran hit equipment with his bat near his country’s dressing room after being dismissed for 95 off 111 balls. In the second ODI, he was dismissed for 95, making this his second successive dismissal in the 90s.
Article 2.2 of the ICC code of conduct for players and player support personnel states that “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an international match” is prohibited.
Violation of the code resulted in a 15% fine of his match fee and the accumulation of a demerit point.
Because Zadran admitted to the offence and also accepted the sanction set out by the match umpire Graeme Labrooy, no formal hearing will be held.
The importance of demerit points becomes evident when a player accumulates four or more demerit points within 24 months. Once the number four has been reached within this time frame, a player is banned from one Test, two ODIs, or two T20Is, whichever comes first for the player.
