AIRPORT WORKER SUCKED INTO PLANE ENGINE DIES
It’s believed a 27-year-old man committed suicide by allowing to be sucked into a passenger plane engine at an airport in Texas.
The incident took place on Friday night shortly after a Delta plane landed.
An investigation into the airport’s safety procedures by the National Transportation Safety Board was called off after the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled that the man took his own life.
On Monday, officials said both the plane and the airport followed the correct safety procedures.
“There were no operational safety issues with either the plane or the airport.”
A spokesperson for Unifi Aviation, the ground crew operations company where the man worked, confirmed this.
“From our initial investigation, this incident was unrelated to Unifi’s operational processes, safety procedures and policies.”
A spokesperson for Delta airline said the company was heartbroken.
“Our hearts and full support are with their family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time.”
Officials told CBS News that grief counsellors are being offered for airport employees.
