PROTEAS WOMEN REACH FIFTH CONSECUTIVE WORLD CUP SEMI
The Proteas women have become the first South African team in any sport to qualify for the semifinals at a World Cup for the fifth consecutive time.
The five consecutive World Cup tournaments include two 50-over World Cups and three T20 World Cups.
This puts the Proteas ahead of even the celebrated Springboks, as they’ve only ever been able to progress to the semifinals during the last three consecutive World Cups.
The Proteas women are currently second in the overall standings of the tournament, but it’s still unclear who they’ll be playing against in their semifinal.
Australia is in the semifinal as well, but the match between Pakistan and New Zealand was rained out on Saturday, and so far, it remains unclear which of the two teams the Proteas will be facing.
This means New Zealand, Bangladesh, India and England are still in it with a chance to reach the semifinals.
Rain has played a major role in both Pakistan and co-hosts Sri Lanka not being able to advance through to the semifinals.
The dates and venues for the semifinals have been determined as 29 October in Guwahati and 30 October in Mumbai.
