SA ELIMINATES PAKISTAN FROM CRICKET WORLD CUP
South Africa thrashed Pakistan by a massive 150 runs in their Women’s Cricket World Cup match on Tuesday. Laura Wolvaardt narrowly missed her century but managed to hit 90 to lead the charge.
Batting first in a rain-shortened 40-over game in Colombo, the Proteas piled up a massive 312-9. This is their highest-ever World Cup total. Wolvaardt and Sune Luus, who hit 61 runs, shared a 118-run stand for the second wicket, punishing a struggling Pakistan bowling attack that couldn’t find consistency with a wet ball.
Marizanne Kapp (68 runs not out) and Nadine de Klerk (41 runs off 16 balls) made more damage to take the total past 300.
Rain kept interrupting play, and Pakistan’s target was revised several times, eventually set at 234 in 20 overs. But they never looked in contention, limping to 83-7 as South Africa dominated from start to finish.
The loss confirmed Pakistan's exit from the tournament without a single win in six matches, ruling them out of the semi-finals. Their early departure means the semis and final will now be played entirely in India.
South Africa, already into the semifinals alongside Australia and England, claimed their fifth straight win, showing strong form heading into the knockout stages.
